Benefits

Big Blue Door offers a range of employee benefits which are outlined below.

Open Fridge and Lunch

We operate an open fridge policy in the office, so you are welcome to help yourself. We keep breakfast, snacks and drinks stocked. If you would like something additional or have specific dietary requirements just let the office manager know and we will see if we can add these items to our shopping list.

Big Blue Door also provides lunch. We are always looking for different places to try - so keep your eyes open and let us know if you have a preference.

Personal Equipment

For most team members at Big Blue Door, a personal Mac will be supplied. You are welcome to take your Mac home so that you can work remotely as well. We will also purchase additional equipment (monitors, stands, chairs etc) for home working as required. Obviously we ask you to use all equipment responsibly and in accordance with our policies. In the event of your employment with us ending, you will be required to return these items.

Opticians

All employees are entitled to free eye tests and if you require “corrective appliances” (which usually means glasses or contact lenses) that are prescribed exclusively for use on display screen work, then Big Blue Door will cover all or some of the cost, depending on what frames/lenses you choose. If this is the case, you are required to provide a prescription which states this as the reason for your needing “corrective appliances”.

In relation to free eye tests please discuss with us arrangements prior to making an appointment - we are flexible about either making arrangements for you, or reimbursing you for the cost if a suitable provider is found.

Season Ticket Loan

To help you pay for your travel to work, we offer an interest-free season ticket loan. Purchasing an annual season ticket is generally cheaper than purchasing monthly or weekly tickets, so the loan makes the cost of an annual ticket more manageable by allowing repayment over 12 monthly instalments; you can repay the loan over a shorter period if you prefer.

To apply for a season ticket loan, you will need to complete a `Application for Season Ticket Loan` form - please ask one of the Managing Partners for access to this.

Training

Big Blue Door appreciates the importance of training and the benefits it has on the Company. In addition to in-house training, you will be allocated an annual training budget of £1,000. This allocation can be spent on an individual basis to attend conferences, undertaken training courses and so on. Please discuss individual requests with your line manager.

If you are interested in a training course or qualification that exceeds your training budget, do still propose your idea. Again, your manager will review and if accepted, we will negotiate some additional terms which work for everyone.

In addition to your training budget, we try to offer employees the chance to attend both the European DrupalCon and the London DrupalCamp.

We are always on the lookout for training opportunities that will be of value to our team and business. We encourage you to do the same. If there is training that you are eager to do and you think it will be of use to your role, let us know.

Long-service Award

We appreciate the hard work our team puts in. As a way of saying thank-you and recognising the contribution our employees make to the business, we offer a long-service award; for every five years service you complete with Big Blue Door, you will receive £350 worth of vouchers.

We keep track of your anniversaries and will remind you when your five year anniversary comes around.

Social Activities

We are a very sociable team and outside of Covid there are regular social events. We go to dinner, have picnics and of course, have a few drinks in the pub. We have a cumulative monthly staff entertainment budget. It can be used on a suggested staff activity which has the approval of the majority of the team. To use the budget speak to your line manager.

Don’t feel like you have to attend all events, there is no pressure, but if you have a suggestion for our next social we’d love to hear.

Display Screen Equipment

With a number of the team working remotely post-COVID for at least part of their working week having a comfortable working environment is key. With that in mind we have a Display screen equipment (DSE) workstation checklist to help identify any support which may be needed. Please work through this form and return to the office manager and discuss any specific requirements with Phil and Paul. Typically Big Blue Door will purchase equipment such as monitors, stands, ergonomic chairs etc.

Expenses and Other Costs

Big Blue Door will cover the costs of all approved and reasonable expenditure incurred in undertaking company duties, including travel and lunch costs incurred attending client meetings. To reclaim expenses you will need to supply the proof of purchase. Please ensure, where applicable, you provide a VAT copy of the receipt.
