Employee onboarding approach

Introduction

At Big Blue Door we want all new employees to feel warmly welcomed to the company from day one and to communicate the company's culture, ways of working and key communication channels. Onboarding is hugely important to us and we very much want this to be a collaborative two way process.

Pre-boarding

Before you join we will aim to:

  • Send an initial welcome email from the Managing Partners welcoming you to the team
  • Send an initial welcome email from our Office Manager including:
    • Your contract and terms of employment
    • A request for your:
      • Bank details (name on account, account number, sort code) (so we can get you onto payroll!)
      • Proof of address
      • Date of birth
      • Contact number
      • Emergency contact name, relation and telephone number (we add these to our HR system for emergencies only)
      • Passport
      • Driving licence
      • National Insurance number
      • Details on whether you have a student loan and if so, which plan (plan 1 or plan 2)
    • Some company essentials including:
      • Employee Handbook - this is designed to give you a good overview of working at Big Blue Door, information about our key policies and expectations (e.g. dress code - spoiler: we’re casual!), how to manage leave and sickness, pension information and much more
      • Health and Safety Policy
      • Harassment, Bullying and Victimisation Policy
      • Equality and Diversity Policy

First Days

If you are coming into the office, our address is Crown & Sceptre House, 60 Queen Elizabeth St, London SE1 2PZ.

Over the course of your first few days we will try and take you through the following:

  • An introduction to the company by one of the Managing Partners and our Office Manager
    • This session will ideally be on your first day and will be an overview on:
      • The history of Big Blue Door
      • Our structure and personnel
      • The type of work we do (who our clients are)
      • Our Values & Culture and how we like to operate (ultimately treating everyone with respect and ensuring the whole team has a chance to voice change opportunities as well as raise concerns in a safe environment)
      • A high level introduction to key systems that we use to underpin our work
      • Our typical delivery process
      • Ways of working (daily routine, annual leave, sickness) and a dive into the employee handbook looking at key policies and perks (pensions etc)
  • Set up form - to make sure you have the correct equipment and so on.
  • Induction Checklist - making sure we have all of your personal information and emergency contact details
  • An introduction to your laptop & equipment
  • A deeper dive into systems including:
  • Introductions to wider team members
